Update for the Morra Hall and the New Hope shop proposal
Firstly the Morra Committee and I would like to thank everyone who contributed and engaged with us with questions, discussion and comments on the proposal that the Morra Hall main hall be leased to the New Hope shop for 6 months.
We did reach the necessary 75% membership approval for this proposal. However, having membership approval was only one of the requirements needed to make this happen.
Auckland Council approval was a further requirement. Without going into all the details here, a resource consent would have been be required for the hall to be leased out in this way.
The New Hope and their owner (Windsor Park Hub) were understandably only prepared to cover these costs if the lease offered would be longer than 6 months.
Our understanding from many of our Morra members, and the Waiheke community, is that the proposal would be supported only for 6 months, and so it has been agreed that the proposal will not proceed.
We do wish all the staff and leadership of the New Hope shop, and the Windsor Park Hub, all our very best as they move onwards and thank the New Hope shop for all their community support over many years.
The Morra Committee is grateful for all the discussions and comments we have had regarding this proposal and we have learnt much in this process.
The Morra Hall and the Meeting Room remains open for community and individual use and hire.
What is up and coming for the Morra Hall? How do we proceed from here?
The Morra Hall remains in a challenging financial situation and we welcome all further support from you as members and from the wider Waiheke Community.
If you or anyone is considering an event or a regular hire of a space, please do consider the Morra Hall.
With kind regards,
Neal Ghoshal (chairperson) and the Morra Committee
Annual General Meeting
Tuesday 21st July
Please join us for our AGM on Tuesday 21st July at 6.30pm in the Morra Meeting Room.
Some members of the committee will be stepping down after some years of service and so we ask our members and the wider Waiheke community for their support and offerings of help to run the hall.
We also welcome ideas for fundraising and further events to support the long-term viability of this valuable community asset.
The hall committee wish all on Waiheke and in New Zealand to remain well and safe under Level 1 Alert Level operation.
Morra Hall exists to offer a community space for the benefit of all Waiheke. Like many community spaces the Morra Hall needs your support – now more than ever.
Please do consider offering any support you can, either by joining as a member, or offering a donation. Our income has been drastically reduced these past months and this year we will struggle to pay for insurance and other costs.
